Santiago de Cuba
The city of music, rum and carnival, Santiago de Cuba is land of tradition, of artistic, cultural and natural heritage. Known for its revolutionary orientation, it was there on 26th July 1953 that Fidel Castro led the assault on Cuartel Moncada, and today is called the Heroic City of the Cuban Republic.
In front of Plaza de Marte, Hostel Santiago de Cuba Libertad is a good starting point to get to know this city, as well as Hostel Santiago de Cuba San Juan, a few metres from the Historic-Military Park of La Loma de San Juan. Amongst the main attractions in Santiago, you shouldn’t miss Parque Céspedes, a former parade ground, surrounded by the Cathedral and the Town Hall, the historic centre, San Pedro de la Roca del Morro Castle, also considered Cultural World Heritage, Baconao Natural Park, World Reserve of the Biosphere and the ruins of the first French coffee growers settlement.
